A matching case is not proof of compatibility
Two remotes can look identical and still have different electronics or supported functions. Collect the part number, regulatory identifier, button layout, and seller's description of condition. Give those details to the person who will do the work. The vehicle's year and model are only the start. Equipment packages and market versions can matter. A product listing that says fits your make is not a substitute for compatibility confirmation.
Ask what used or refurbished actually means
Used may mean removed from another vehicle with its original registration state intact. Refurbished may describe cosmetic work, electronic repair, or a reset; the word alone tells you very little. Ask the seller exactly what was done.
Some systems restrict reuse, and the technician's tools and authorized access affect what they can support. Do not assume a reset service exists for your part, or that a claim of being unlocked guarantees successful registration.
Put the financial risk in writing
A provider may decline customer-supplied parts or charge for a programming attempt that fails because the fob is incompatible. That policy should be clear before the appointment.

Judge the complete result
A cheap used remote can be poor value if you pay twice for travel, cutting, or failed attempts. Compare the complete installed price of a supplied new or properly supported refurbished key.
Keep all current working keys available if the provider requests them. After programming, test the new key and the keys you intend to retain. Ask whether any previous credentials were removed and make sure that operation was authorized.
