Ask for the finding that supports the decision
Have the technician explain whether the issue is a failed cylinder, broken mechanism, damaged key, or another condition. A statement that a lock is high security or impossible is not a complete diagnosis by itself.
Ask what supported alternatives were considered and whether the provider has the tools and experience for this particular hardware. You do not need instructions for opening the lock; you need a clear explanation of the proposed service.
Price the complete result before the first hole
The opening charge may not include the replacement cylinder, new keys, installation, or door repairs. Ask for the total scope and the point at which another approval would be required.

- What part will be installed afterward, and is it available now?

- What happens if the first proposed method does not succeed?

Check who owns the hardware decision
For a rental, office, or managed building, involve the person authorized to approve changes. A cylinder may belong to a master-key system, and a door may have a required fire or exit function.
For a safe, ask whether opening will affect its repairability or certification and who will perform the follow-up work. A door-opening specialist and a safe technician are not interchangeable capabilities.
Pause when you need a clearer explanation
If there is no immediate danger and the explanation or revised price is unclear, ask for time to contact the booking business or get another assessment. Keep the exchange factual and prioritize your safety if the situation becomes threatening.
After authorized work, retain an itemized invoice and test the restored function. A door left open, unsecured, or incompatible with the agreed key system is not the same outcome as a completed repair.
